π Marvellous Meghalaya π
I guess, for me there is nothing left which I can flaunt about the big cities. No more this big city life comforts me, pleases me.
For me, my life changed, the moment I stepped foot in Meghalaya.
Carved out from Assam as a state in the year 1972, this marvellous abord is no less than a paradise for which speaks its awe striking matchless natural beauty. It is full of tranquil and charming lakes, puzzled caves, ould and big hills and many more.
If you ever decide to escape the metropolis life, do consider my recommendation and travel to Meghalaya.
THE DOUBLE DECKER LIVING ROOT BRIDGES
Its most famous attraction are deep; in the dense tropical forest some of the most astonishing man-made and natural wonder known as the living root bridges. Members of the Khasi tribes have trained them to grow from the roots of ancient rubber trees.
MAWPHLANG SACRED FOREST
In the east Khasi Hills, Mawphlang is the home to a sacred plant groove of the Khasi tribe which is full of medicinal plants. Next to this groove is a Khasi Heritage Village with different styles of mock tribal huts. Do consider spending a day out in nature along the David Scott trail from Mawphlang To Lad Mawphlang. It is part of an old horse trail dating back to the British era.
LAITLUM CANYON
Laitlum Canyon, a place which will make you feel as if you have reached the edge of the world. It is an hour and a half east of Mawphlang.
It is indeed a visual treat and one can see different shades of green for miles around from the edge of the Canyon.
MAWSMAI CAVE
To add some thrill we have the Mawsmai Cave. This place is strangely darkened with cramped and narrow paths, entwined with each other. To add something more, this cave only has one entry and exit point. This cave in Meghalaya is what many explorers will find a strange and an adventurous experience. The glorious stalagmite and stalactite formations along with this thrill is definitely worth your visit.
UMIAM LAKE
Do plan to visit the Umiam Lake especially during the winter time, which is from October to February to be amazed by its glory. It is during these winter months only when the lake gets filled up with the water, which gives it an unbelievable picturesque beauty. In fact this lake is actually made from a reservoir built for a dam.
During the summer months the water in the lake gets lowered and this is when the islands emerge out of the lake.
Though these magnificent places will definitely prove to be a visual treat for you...but they alone won't suffice..
Because the real treat is the food of Meghalaya...
Here are some of my personal favourites..Do try them.
JADOH
Though pretty simple...this dish is finger-licking awesome.
In my opinion, it is probably the best dish from the land of hills. Jadoh rice is made with rice and pork, mixed with the best spices and chopped vegetables and finally garnished with eggs or fried fish.
NAKHAM BITCHI
Yet another delicious and nutritious soup, directly from the Garo people, generally taken after a heavy spicy meal. This soup is made from dry fish with vegetables. You can even boil the ingredients and then use them.
TRADITIONAL MOMOS
I know...I know. Nowadays anyone can easily find momos anywhere. But for me the best momos I have ever had are of Meghalaya. As for the filling of these momos the people use the most traditional and safe ingredients. Be it boiled, fried, vegetable, pork or chicken...I love all sorts of momos, and believe me...nowhere you can get the authentic taste of Meghalayan Momos.
FOR ME, MEGHALAYA IS SO FAR THE BEST GETAWAY DESTINATION AND IN MY OPINION EVERYONE SHOULD VISIT MEGHALAYA AT LEAST ONCE IN THEIR LIFETIME.
IT LITERALLY HAS A LOT TO OFFER SUCH AS ITS CULTURE, TRADITION, FOOD, NATURAL BEAUTY AND SO ON..AND I BELIEVE EVERYONE SHOULD EMBRACE THIS..✌✌π
